There are a lot of myths related to hair growth, hair loss and hair removal. For a quick education, see our section on ‘myth busting’.

Transgender Hair Removal

Hair removal is a necessary concern for many members of the GLBT community, particularly for people that are gay or transgender. Champion Laser has extensive experience with work related to trangender hair removal and preparation for people in transition with gender reassignment surgery. We understand the special needs of our clients and respect the need for privacy and discretion.

Transgenders can get desired look by Laser Hair Removal

Transgender Hair Removal

Normal male levels of testosterone leads to body hair growth that can be perceived as undesirable. We have many transgender clients that rely on us to help lessen or eliminate hair growth in these areas:

  • Pubic hair extending to thighs
  • Facial hair (sideburns, beard, moustache)
  • Nose and/or ear hair
  • Chest hair, periareolar hair, perianal hair
  • Leg hair
  • Axilla (underarm) hair

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for transgender and transsexual people changes the balance of sex hormones in their bodies and this will reduce hair growth, however it does not completely eliminate it in all areas. HRT cannot destroy or influence hair existing at the time therapy is started, which makes is necessary to use electrolysis and/or laser hair removal methods.

Conversely, trans men may find that HRT cause hair growth that is excessive for their taste and may require assistance to manage this.

Gender Reassignment Surgery

As with any plastic surgery, it is frequently necessary to remove hair from one site on the body to graft it to another area. In cases where the site selected to harvest skin cells contains more hair follicles than the area it is to be grafted to, it is necessary to seek assistance to eliminate hair follicles prior to the procedure.

More detail on hair removal for GBLT persons can be found in the article section.
