Are Tweezing, Shaving,
Waxing or Creams Helpful?

Traditional hair removal techniques such as shaving, plucking and waxing provide only temporary relief. Scarring, allergic reactions and ingrown hairs are common side effects of all these hair removal methods.

In fact, tweezing and waxing may stimulate vellus (fine blonde) hairs to become longer, dark hairs (terminal) hairs, creating more of a hair problem. These hairs are commonly referred to as 'peach fuzz', barely noticeable.

It is a myth, however, that shaving hair makes it thicker. The illusion of thickness is caused by the fact that the tapered end of the hair has been cut off, leaving the thicker shaft of the hair. As it grows from this point it will be coarser because it is uniformly thick and blunt-ended.
