Electrolysis Hair Removal Calgary

Microscopic electrolysis is a term for electrolysis performed with a microscope, which is the process we use at Champion Laser & Electrolysis. This allows us to see all fine hairs and insert the needle directly into the follicle smoothly and efficiently, increasing patient comfort and effectively destroying the root of the hair.

Remove unwanted hairs with Electrolysis Hair Removal Treatment

Electrolysis is the treatment of unwanted hair by applying a small amount of electrical current to the base of the hair follicle by gently inserting a disposable probe. The energy from this current destroys the growth center of the hair follicle called the papilla, making this a permanent method of hair removal.

Because we are skilled with both laser and microscopic electrolysis technologies, the associates at Champion Laser & Electrolysis are able to design a balanced program for effective permanent results, safe for all skin types. We recommend use of laser wherever possible since it accomplishes hair removal more quickly, but there are some procedures that require the fine detail of electrolysis to kill the hair follicle.

For example, electrolysis is sometimes recommended to treat sensitive areas, and hard to reach areas such as inside ears. Sometimes people with darker skin will need to augment laser treatments with electrolysis if there is a risk that the level of the wavelength required to kill hair will result in skin damage. That being said, it is also important for you to know that we have lasers that enable us to minimize or avoid the need to use electrolysis on even the darkest skin types.

With electrolysis, each hair has to be individually treated. Fine, lightly pigmented hair (vellus hair) can usually be eliminated with a single treatment (this is the hair type that normally does not respond to laser treatment). Thick, heavily pigmented hairs or coarse white hairs are more resilient and will require follow-up treatments.

The probe never actually penetrates the skin; it is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. After each follicle is treated, the electrologist removes the hair with sterile forceps. We use a microscope to ensure accurate insertion, which increases the effectiveness of the treatment, as well as comfort.

Electrolysis is safe and effective with few or no side effects, it is normal to experience a slight reddening of treated areas, and this may last from 15 minutes to 2 hours. Most people can expect to have a treatment of electrolysis during a lunch hour and return to work.
